The New Leadership Skill Nobody Taught You: Distribution

In a world flooded with content, the leaders who know how to distribute their message will shape the conversation.

For years, leaders believed their job ended when the sermon was preached, the article was written, or the conference was over.

That world is gone.

Today, every church and ministry is a media company, whether it planned to become one or not. Great ideas still matter, but great ideas that never get distributed disappear.

Think about your Sunday message. It shouldn’t live for forty minutes and then be forgotten. One sermon can become a podcast episode, five short videos, a newsletter, a series of social media posts, a YouTube teaching, discussion questions for small groups, an AI-searchable article, and eventually a book chapter. Every message has multiple lives if you build a system to give it one.

That’s why distribution isn’t a marketing tactic; it’s a leadership discipline. Leaders decide how ideas move through an organization and into the world.

If you don’t make distribution a priority, you’re limiting the influence of the very message you’ve been called to share.

The mistake many ministries make is chasing every new platform that appears. But platforms come and go, and systems endure.

Build a repeatable process that captures your content once and republishes it thoughtfully across the channels where your audience already spends time. When distribution becomes part of your leadership strategy, your message keeps working long after you’ve left the stage.
