Terrorist Leaders and Their Addiction to Porn

If you haven’t read Nicholas Schmidle’s fascinating feature story from the August 8th issue of The New Yorker called “Getting Bin Laden,” you should.  It’s an insider’s detailed account about what happened shortly after 11pm the night of May 1st when two MH-60 Black Hawk helicopters lifted off in Eastern Afghanistan on the mission to kill Osama Bin Laden.  The story is riveting enough, but there was one aspect of the incident I wasn’t ready for.  The SEALs reported that after killing their target, and then collecting flash drives, DVD’s, and computer hardware, they found something else interesting: Bin Laden’s stash of digital pornography.  One of the SEALs remarked, “We find it on all these guys, whether they’re in Somalia, Iraq, or Afghanistan.”

Since reading that report, I’ve seen his statement confirmed in other news sources as well.  I think it’s a strange side of these terrorist leaders who preach a strict and unforgiving morality.  Men who publicly rant for hours about the moral debasement of the West. They often have multiple wives, are driven by their ideology, and supposedly swear to a religion that’s overwhelmed by rules, with no room for grace.  Over and over, these tyrants are into online porn.

What does that say about the psyche of these guys?   I’d love to hear your opinion…

  1. Ted Bundy, infamous serial killer, granted an interview to Dr. James Dobson shortly before his execution in 1989.  Having lived on death row for many years, he told Dobson that all the criminals on death row, without exception, had an obsessive addiction to porn and described the role of porn in his own life of crime before his conversion to Christianity in prison.

With Osama, we find that he had an appetite for two categories of video – porn and watching himself on the TV.  Both of these activities had to be damaging to his moral compass.

  2. The evil in a person’s heart will publically promote one thing and practice another privately. Evil is two faced and is epitomized through hypocrisy: do as I say not as I do.

  3. To know sin but no way of escape, is it any wonder he hated the world? He hated himself. Religion without grace is extremely dangerous. Thank God for Jesus.

  4. I’d just like to add that in general mideastern/arab-enfluenced culture is MALE focused and dominated. Woman are regarded more like chattle than anything else…

So, it is not surprising that in Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan they find porn. It is just a reflection of their low viewpoint of woman- objects not persons. I doubt that they have a moral dilemma with having and viewing porn.

  5. Pornography is an appetite for sexual relations with demons. The images of women are used by demonic spirits to entice the carnal appetites of men, so they will completely yield to an evil agenda — to steal, kill, and destroy. Intermingling porn with religion gives the deceived a delusion that their destructive appetite is actually the bidding of God. By the way, demons will use invite Christians as quickly as they will use Muslims to do their bidding.

  6. Not to be too blunt — If you raided any man’s computer, you’re 90% likely to find porn collections.

Something I hate to say but have yet to meet a man that hasn’t had some kind of porn problem.
