Is Anyone Imitating You?

The best compliment you can ever receive is imitation.  When the iPhone debuted, it was a radical change in cell phone design, and criticized by plenty of their competitors.  But today, every other mobile phone company on the planet has an iPhone look-alike.

Over the years, our team at Cooke Media Group has been criticized by competitive producers, but in most cases, it isn’t long before they start imitating the look and feel of our television or film projects.

The question is:  “Who’s imitating you?”   Are you being so innovative and original in your thinking and your work that others feel an irresistible need to follow your example?  Are you setting the bar so high that everyone else wants to reach to that level?

I was reading in the Bible’s book of Philippians 3:17 (ESV):  “Brothers, join in imitating me, and keep your eyes on those who walk according to the example you have in us.”   Social Media creates followers, but our lives should create imitators.

  1. In religious conflicts, we sometimes are in fact imitating each other, but we somehow misread others’ actions as contrasting with our own actions. A greater understanding can lead to peace.
