Knowledge and Ignorance Always Grow Together

Ignorance & knowledge grow at the same rate because the more you know, the more you realize you don’t know.  I’ve worked with people who were convinced they knew everything.  Been there done that.  Learned all there was to know on a subject.  Refused to consider any other ideas or information. But it doesn’t take long for those people to fade into irrelevance.

My growth rate and my  ignorance rate grow at the same pace because the more I learn, the more I realize I don’t know.  Therefore, embrace your ignorance.  Admit there’s a lot of learn, and then start learning.  Don’t get caught without a book.  Start listening.  Make notes.  It’s a big world out there, and finding the answers to tomorrow’s problems will take more than yesterdays information.

  1. I was just saying this about someone I work with–the man is so smart–but he doesn’t know what he doesn’t now.  That is scary.

The best way to succeed is to know your areas of weakness and staff it until you increase knowledge/talents yourself.

  2. And it’s important to also keep in mind that you simply aren’t going to know everything, and that’s ok.  Surround yourself with people who excel in areas that you don’t, or know things you don’t.  There’s no reason to try to do everything yourself when there are plenty of untapped resources all around you (and by you I mean me too!).
