I’ve started asking that question to my friends – particularly those in the ministry and nonprofit world. “If a donor suddenly stepped up and offered you a $10 million donation, what would you do with it?” I’ve been shocked at the number of people – even older, more experienced pastors and leaders – who have no idea. They’ve spent decades in ministry and yet can’t really express what they’re most passionate about, what cause they champion, or how they could potentially fulfill their mission.
It’s really a branding and identity question. When a person or organization doesn’t know it’s identity, mission, and purpose, they struggle to fulfill that purpose – even when an incredible opportunity happens.
How about you? If a financial opportunity opened up that allowed you to fulfill your calling, do you know what you’d do with it?
If you’ve been in ministry for more than a decade, and can’t answer that question, you might need to rethink what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.
