Facing the Giants Movie Gathers Momentum

Facing the Giants Pre-Selling in 1,000-ticket Blocks

NEW YORK–Facing the Giants, a new film from Sony/Samuel Goldwyn and Provident Films, releases across the country this Sept. 29 on 450-plus screens in approximately 90 markets. In an unprecedented marketing model, Facing the Giants has added markets where communities have committed to buy 1,000 tickets for opening weekend, guaranteeing profitable runs for the film in those markets.

The model known as the Facing the Giants’ “Booster Club” has 29 member communities ranging from tiny Harrisburg IL, population 9,628, to
metropolitan Shreveport LA, population 392, 302.

“The booster clubs are formed by folks who have seen Facing the Giants at a screening. They love the movie and the message so much that they
have to ensure it opens in their town,” said Kris Fuhr, vice president Provident Films. “We were pleased when our partner Samuel Goldwyn
agreed to make this happen for us after we were barraged with inquiries from around the country.”

The 1,000-ticket groups represent a variety of configurations, including retail outlets, churches, civic groups and in some cases
individual fans of the film who have banded together to purchase 1,000 tickets. In one Indiana community, 100 people are buying 10 tickets
each. In Georgia, three organizations have banded together to buy tickets for every varsity football player, coach, and manager in the
Houston County schools. In other markets, only five or six people in each cover all 1,000 tickets.

At more than 100 screenings held across the country, response to this film produced by a church in Georgia and picked up for distribution by
a major studio is overwhelmingly positive. After one screening in Macon GA, some 2,000 tickets were pre-sold for the film’s Sept. 29
opening weekend.

  1. Very bold movie. Kind of flick you used to see in churches on Saturday night, but now its on the local movie screen. How many screens did this show on opening night? The boldness of the Spirit is beginning to show in local media, and it emboldens other believers to do the same. Good work!
