I was traveling, but my wife Kathleen had the opportunity to see one of the first private screenings of the new Narnia film. Here’s her review:
I love the C.S Lewis “Narnia” books, but I have to admit I haven’t been a great fan of the films that Disney has produced in recent years. That has all changed. This 3rd film, of the seven book journey, is by far the best yet. I think moving it to Fox was a wise move.
“The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of The Dawn Treader” is quite the ride! Even the acting that I found quite weak in the past has improved although Will Poulter’s performance as Eustace Scrubb, (the Pevensie children’s cousin whom Lucy and Edmund are staying with in England during the war) gets rather annoying. He’s a bit over the top for me, but kids will probably like him.
“Dawn Treader” will not disappoint the entire family or general movie watcher. Although, I wouldn’t take children under the age of 8, since it might be too intense.
The blockbuster film Avatar’s 3D effects were really quite amazing and groundbreaking but the story itself was not very compelling. You left the theater with nothing but “an amusement park” experience. “Dawn Treader” however, has both. With it’s powerful story line, nonstop action, and amazing 3D special effects, you will leave the theater with much to talk about and savor with parallels to the way we should try to live in the present world. The final battle scene has you on the edge of your chair and will completely take your breath away.
I wouldn’t miss the film this Holiday Season. Harry Potter move over. A real enduring story is in the theaters this Christmas!
And if you’re a church or ministry leaders, check out the Narnia Faith website for great resources.
