Announcing The Audio Bible Entirely Recorded With Women’s Voices

A few years ago, Ann White, a Bible teacher in Atlanta asked our team at Cooke Media Group to create a strategy for taking her ministry to the next level. She had a vision of teaching the Bible to “at-risk” women in jails, prison, rehabilitation centers, and to women trapped in abusive situations. We began by publishing Ann’s books as well as Bible study resources her teaching teams could use, starting in the Atlanta jail system.

But we quickly discovered that when it comes to many “at-risk” women – particularly those escaping from abusive situations – they are unable to carry print Bibles or Bible study resources. In fact, many were living in shelters or out of a car and some only had the clothes on their backs.

So we developed the idea of creating an audio Bible featuring Ann’s teaching commentaries and resources that women could easily access via a phone or other mobile device.

And that’s when we discovered something that had never occurred to me: We learned that when a woman has been abused by men – sometimes for years or decades – the last thing in the world they want to hear is the Bible being read in a man’s voice.

So we began producing the “Courage for Life Audio Bible” – the first audio Bible ever recorded entirely by women’s voices. We brought in my friend Amick Byram who has performed on hundreds of television programs and musicals – including being the singing voice of Moses on Dreamwork’s “The Prince of Egypt” to direct the voice artists. We then cast professional women narrators here in Hollywood, and started recording.

Today, that project is a reality. We’ve launched the “Courage for Life Audio Bible” app in the App Store featuring the New Testament, and we’ll be releasing the Old Testament shortly thereafter.

At this point, it’s a total labor of love. Because of our desire to make the app available to at-risk women at no charge, Courage for Life is raising the total recording and distribution budget. So if you have a passion or desire to help women in these challenging circumstances engage the Bible, please consider helping Courage for Life fund this important project. You can give online here.

Our team at Cooke Media Group is incredibly excited and honored to partner with Ann White and Courage for Life Ministries as well as app creator Aspire One to create and produce this amazing project. I’d encourage you to download the app, try it out, and share it with anyone who might benefit. In addition, please rate the app and give us a positive review, which will encourage others to experience it.

We’re also in the process of partnering with the LUMO Project, Mega-Voice, YouVersion, and others in order to get this audio Bible in the hands of as many people as possible.

At Cooke Media Group, our mission is to accelerate yours, which is why helping visionary leaders like Ann White who have an extraordinary calling for engaging the culture with the gospel is the heartbeat of our team.

Creative ideas like this are a critical way to reach this generation, and we’re thrilled to be a part of projects like this.

  1. This is fantastic! I love when we understand an audience well and can create something that helps them connect with God. I would have never realized how women from these kinds of backgrounds would respond to male voices. I use audio Bibles all the time, and I’m glad for this project to bring the power of the Word to these women. I’m sure other women (and men) would see this as valuable for them as well.
