Power and influence can change the world. Add Kingdom philosophy that says it is not about me, rather the power and influence of Who is in me and see miracles happen!
Yeshua (Jesus) had power like none of us can imagine. He told us to be perfect (mature) as His father is. Soooo... I like to buck the "no-more-power-to-the-power-to-the-people" trend we're seeing a LOT of today (O-O-Obama!)... and say "more love - more power!" And, I think, the best outplay of being "rooted and ground in the love of Messiah"... is in Kingdom-minded entrepreneurialism. So, with the need of money and influence (power) necessary for success in the global economy (such as it is) today, I'm WAY more concerned about too LITTLE power in Christians than too much!
Anyone with a "burden" (God-given passion to meet a need) would love to have power to meet the need. And, anyone burden-driven will use power and influence in the appropriate way. It's the people seeking power and influence first (the struggle of SO MANY pastors and worship leaders - to become influence-driven) that tend to do wierd things with it when they finally get it. When people are burden driven, influence and power always end up funneling towards the driving force: reaching the need. That mixed with 1 Cor 4:20 "For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk, but a matter of power"...I think we know where God stands on the issue.
The study of brokenness in Gene Edwars' A TALE OF THREE KINGS is timeless. Power threatened brings the insecurity out of us. Power hunger brings the selfish ambition out of us. True Power understood brings the servant heart of Jesus out of us.
