Actually my job at the Oral Roberts Television Ministry is now changing. Recently, I accepted a request by Richard Roberts to step into a new role of Senior Program Producer, producing both "Something Good Tonight - The Hour of Healing" as well as continuing to be the producer of "Make Your Day Count" with Lindsay Roberts. Last Tuesday, after the final live programs in the Prayer Tower, on the campus of Oral Roberts University, we have been in the process of packing up and moving the ministry to a new building (still in Tulsa). In the next couple weeks (along with unpacking) the ministry will be renewing their efforts through television and various outreaches to minister to a global community with a Saving and Healing Gospel. Both ministry television programs will resume live broadcasts in mid-May. I would appreciate your prayers in this new and exciting (ad)venture. I know without the Lord "I can do nothing good" and with Him I can dare dream of being a part of impacting the world. How? I got a couple ideas...

I am a Biblical Studies major at Life Pacific College. We don't have a media program what so ever. Over the past few years I have taken on many freelance jobs, in the process learning as I do. I taught myself(with the help of online resources) FCP, and have learned so much about the production process both by doing, and once again being interactive in forums and other online sites. Through smaller gigs I have been able to purchase equipment, and am now at the point where I am ready to tackle more professional projects. I'm looking forward to where God will take me with this!

Phil--Where is the best place for a young person to train in production for Christian media (i.e. an entry level position in video/audio/etc.) these days. (Back in our day, it was CBN, PTL, TBN, OR...)
I thought you'd never ask :) Actually we are launching a training center, Global Vision Video Institute, this fall to do exactly what you were requesting. Our current plans call for a four week curriculum covering pre-production planning, writing (very basic), camera set-up and operation, lighting, audio, multi-camera operation and directing, green screen technique, editing, DVD authoring, etc. There will be a maximum of 10 students per session, with the first session, hopefully, in September. The first few sessions will probably take place at night to accommodate local folks who have day jobs. Later we will have classes during the daytime hours.
The laboratory will be a new high-definition studio we are constructing. The building should be complete in about six weeks, and the starting date for the institute will depend on when we can get the equipment and get it installed. I don't have any brochures created yet, but I can keep anyone interested up-to-date on progress via email. You can get my email address at our website, www.wrxytv.com.
Caveat.....This information does not constitute an endorsement by Phil. I just felt I needed to respond to your question.
None of the options apply exactly. I'm the Operations Manager of the Christian television station in Southwest Florida. My General Manager (early 30's .... younger than my youngest son) and I (in my 60's) both feel the need for a wholesale overhaul of programming on Christian television and its funding model. We also realize that this is a large ship with a small rudder, but we are both passionate about the future of broadcast television and emerging technologies for the distribution of video. Phil's books (including the latest, Branding Faith) and this blog are proving to be excellent sources of information and encouragement in our quest.
I'm the Media Director at Crossroads Church (www.mycrossroads.org) in Lafayette, LA, and the Director of Production at Crossroads Creative (www.crossroads-creative.com), so I'm kinda both #s 1, 3, and 4, but #4 mostly.
I used to serve as Chief Audio Engineer at Oral Roberts Television (alongside Brian Sinks, above). Hey Brian, remember this?... "Engage eavesdrop mode!"
i think you left out one category. persons who used to work for media ministries and who left in frustration when their ideas weren't being respected by the pastor or his children who run the ministry because they knew everything!!

I work in an agency that helps great ministries raise the money they need to spread the Gospel.

Crossroads Creative is the fancy name for the media department of Crossroads Church, and we produce video resources that we market to churches though our website. We also have our pieces on www.sermonspice.com www.worshiphousemedia.com, www.graphics4worship.com, www.shoutable.com, and coming soon, www.catholicmediahouse.com (which I'm REALLY excited about).
