Here's some interesting observations on starting a career in the film industry by David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson.  Good advice, and if you know of someone considering the business as a career, worth sending a link.

Anytime a man sets a limit on what others can achieve and can't they just set a goal for someone else to break. You can come into Hollywood anytime you are ready through the preparations you have made and the determination to succeed if it is the Lord's will for the person. For with God nothing is impossible. Go down if you want to go up; Die if you want to live; Be tough on life before it's tough on you; Prepare to suffer; Make pleasure a transition not an address; Complacency is a convenient killer; Truth is a bitter pill that leaves a sweet aftertaste.

Hollywood worships the dollar so if you are good at making it (the dollars, pound sterling etc.)before you even get noticed globally they will come knocking at your door. Make money, make Hollywood - and there is no age limit to that. Go down if you want to go up; Die if you want to live; Be tough on life before it's tough on you; Prepare to suffer; Make pleasure a transition not an address; Complacency is a convenient killer; Truth is a bitter pill that leaves a sweet aftertaste.
