Juanita Bynum In Divorce Court - The TV Version
An alert reader sent me this trailer for today's Divorce Court TV program - featuring the case of Juanita Bynum. Remember years ago, when most Christian leaders were classy?
Ugh... Stomach Turning.
Thanks for lowering the bar.
I actually threw up in my mouth a little.

Sorry, but I have a different take. I have been following this story as well as Junaita and my understanding is that she is trying to bring a face to domestic violence. I now have three friends who have been through horrible domestic violence and all three are believers as were their husbands. After one of my friend's husband tried to kill her and a pastor told her if her husband was treating her this way it was because she must have deserved it, me perspective was dramatically altered.
I don't know Juanita's heart but I do know the subject of domestic violence in the body needs to be exposed, once and for all. I can't imagine that this is very easy for her.
As for her comment about taking care of herself, if a man is beating a woman, wouldn't that be the appropriate response? Why would that make anyone sick?
sorry - I meant to type "as for the comment"
its sad that a suppossedly ed.phd couldnt get reason ,to clinical christian counseling before following with the will of the flesh. i know that some u will think that im to hard & judgemental. however i know that if we listen to wise godly counsel surely someone might have suggested pre-marital temperment counseling. no matter what the issues were we all got another black eye. shalom
Wow. I don't know which way to swing on this one.
Y'see, I don't watch Christian Television. I've read a bit about Ms. Bynum, both from supporters and detractors. That's it.
I will say this: dignity is over rated. You can't get in or out of this world with your dignity intact. I always laugh when folks wax rhapsodic about "dying with dignity". What a crock! But that's not the topic at hand.
Ms. Bynum seems to be connecting with her fans in a forum they watch and on a topic relevant to their lives. That's probably a good thing. The fact that the rest of us think it's a bit Jerry Springeresque is most likely our problem, not hers. Maybe we need to get over ourselves.
Spell check keeps asking me if I want to change "Bynum" to Barnum...chuckle...somebody, please stop me!
Am I the only one who remembers what a circus her wedding was...so over the top. I can't help but think that if she was the woman of God that she professes to be, she would not have been in this marriage in the first place. She would have married in way that honored God.
Now that she finds he is an abuser, again, why does this have to be a media circus?
Bynum ... Barnum ..... there might be a clue there? Both of them relied upon suckers being born every minute.
On the contrary I see this differently. She got married on TV and made a huge show out of it; it is only just natural to end it on TV for the US to know and eventually the whole world through the Internet. It is just a natural progression. My only prayer is that after this is all said and done, both of them will take time off and rethink their whole walk with God and do what Jesus said "Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
I think it's always easy to judge someone elses situations or choices, but the word says judge not, lest ye be judged. How easy is it for minister's to find outside counseling, when they are so busy going to God for the people? We all make and will make some bad choices in our lives, it's apart of being human, but the real test is what you do with your life after the bad choice has been realized. Oh yeah, just a little caution, be careful how you put your mouth on the woman or man of God!!

Whatever happened to taste, decorum, and appropriateness...not to mention representing Christ as oppossed to promoting oneself?
"I loved him but I loved me more."
I am so grateful Jesus didn't adopt that attitude in Gethsemane....
Even the very public Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston split took a higher ground than this. And they don't even pretend to represent godly values or to hold 1 Cor. 13 as a standard for navigating difficult decisions.
