I love the "Small Agency Diary" section of the Advertising Age website. This post from Nancy Kramer is designed for ad agencies, but this advice on growth could work for just about any organization.

Nancy Kramer states many truths in her article that not only apply to organizations, but to our own personal lives. One line that stuck out was: "Had we not recognized the strategic importance of articulating a point of view about our future, our present would certainly look much different -- and our future less bright." Many of us (I know I've been guilty of this at times) will wish and hope but won't write down specific goals and pursue them. For the past 24 hours after reading the above quote, I have encountered similar statements about taking responsibility for the life we have been given. Taking responsibility (articulating a point of view about our future...) is always deliberate. I'm sure there are areas where we articulate our future's point of view very well (like when planning vacations), but we all have areas where we need improvement. Articulating our future helps when we encounter unforseen circumstances. And even though there will be situations that stretch beyond our planning, much of what we receive in life has to do with the decisions we make and the consequences (positive and negative) that happen because of them. Thank you Phil for this information. I plan on meditating on it. Hopefully others will do the same.
