Youtube.com is becoming the hub of TV Evangelist Controversy
these days. For instance, you can see multiple videos about the Juanita
Bynum / Bishop Weeks divorce and reports about their alleged fist-fight
in a hotel parking lot. You can even see a demonstration from Juanita of
the bruises. Taking controversy directly to the web via online video
apparently is the new way to seek justice in the digital TV evangelist
world.
Likewise, you can find plenty of video coverage of the Randy
and Paula White divorce, including the original statement from their
own pulpit, and follow up clips. It’s no different for former pastor Ted
Haggard.
I’m not talking about guilt, innocence, or judgment here – simply
the impact of video footage from multiple perspectives – available
globally within minutes of the event.
As I’ve said in magazine articles and on this blog – the age of
Google and Youtube isn’t about “search” or “video” – it’s
about reputation management. The old DUI you got in college that you
assumed everyone forgot will be right there on the net for everyone to see.
Likewise with video gaffes and other mistakes.
If you choose to use the national media to share your message with the
culture, I encourage you to be careful and respect its power. Nothing is
more true than the world of media when you use the phrase, “Those who
live by the sword, die by the sword.”
Why are we even trying to direct people to where they can get into the negative aspects of people's lives? It's just another form of gossiping with visuals included. What happened to just praying for them?
