Where Media is Growing Fastest

Check out this new chart on media growth. The new Nielsen report shows Americans watching plenty of TV at home -- 153 hours every month -- but DVR viewership and mobile video are growing faster than any other segment. Mobile video watching jumped 52% from the previous year and "time-shifted" TV watching climbed 37% over the same period.

These are definitely the areas of most rapid growth (mobile video use in the US is still way behind Europe and parts of Asia). But for perspective, TV viewing by the average American is still 153 hours per month. 131 million people are viewing video on the Internet and those people are averaging 3 hours per month (combined home and office). 13.4 million Americans watch video on mobile phones, and those people average 3.5 hours of mobile video viewing per month. Not surprisingly, the usage rates of mobile video are highest in the 12-17 age category followed by the 18-24 year olds. The entire report is available on PDF at http://tinyurl.com/kw6vhx.
