The Change Revolution with Phil Cooke

Dispatches from the front lines of media, faith, and culture

Where do you find MOST of your entertainment?

Phil,

Reading through your articles I get the impression that you have "pastor" issues. Whether you are talking about the presidency, CEO's, Market identity or Moral issues, sermons, media influence….some how, some way "pastor" seems to slip in there; usually in a negative tone. It just seems to come out in your sermon. LOL…

Don't make the same mistakes that Charisma Magazine has. Journalists are not exempt from being "pastorable" Nor are they appointed as "anointed critics" of the five fold ministry. In the digital age anything can be scandalized, even if it is a crock to scandalize it.

Not a criticism, just an observation.

GM

Interesting observation, Gina - although I have no idea what it has to do with this post. However, it could be the reason I get asked by so many pastors to speak at their conferences. They seem to like me.... :-)

And, back to the thread..

I think IPTV is super broad. Maybe you could add online forms of music-listening for example. (if it's not too late). Pandora.com, Blip.fm, last.fm, iTunes radio, etc. Also I see Youtube and Hulu as mostly different. Hulu would be tv made by the old school and youtube by the new, maybe calling for at least two different categories there as well.

But yes, online entertainment is growing wildly past network and satellite tv... even outside of your readership (and viewership!).

Rock on, Phil. I bet my pastor would like to speak with you, too!

Im sure they do. Hopefully you "like" them too. :-)

lol...Gina. You do indeed make some interesting observations. I'd say the issue is not whether someone is asked to speak at a conferrence, but rather, where does that person attend thier local church faithfully and consistently supporting the work with thier time, talent and resources (in all honesty). I'd agree, the arrogance of some of these christian publications do more damage than good. But hey, it makes the publishers money eh? Some of these little journalists are about as misleading as it gets. Sadly, many Christians are gullible enough to follow. Just because it looks "hip" and "popular" doesnt make it right by any means.

With my TIVO, I don't know what shows are on broadcast chanels and which are on cable channels. Some are on both (although different seasons).

Hey Phil: I have around 500 people who have come from the old soviet union in our church and they ask why you and many others have the red star and Revolution and the other soviet emblems for your ministry backdrop, this is very common in America, they and I ask why you could not use the Cross or some other image behind you, it engenders very bad memories in our people, you would not use a Nazi image why use a communist one.

No big deal just a question why Christians do this without a thought that hundreds of thousands of Christians were murdered in the CCCP.

Frosty

Great question Frosty. I've taken fragments of those images that portray "revolution" as an example of the media revolution that's happening right now around the world. The Russian Revolution is over (thank God), but we're still experiencing revolutions in technology, culture, politics, and media. I've personally taught in Russia many times and have the greatest respect and admiration for what you've been through. But there is historical impact in the art and imagery, and I wanted to keep the powerful images alive in another context.

Someone recently asked me when I was going to upgrade to HD. My response was that I had been HD for years - its called cinema. Anyway, that's where I get most of my entertainment (that and Phil's Jesus Junk updates).
